RACE/CLAN: Raen Au Ra
RESIDENCE: Hingashi (Formerly)
OCCUPATION: Agent of Alatori Acquisitions, Contract bodyguard to Vivisha Visha, Hingan Noble (Formerly),
ALIGNMENT: Lawful Neutral

Natsuki Uematsu is a young Hingan exile, wading through the strange land of Eorzea with lance hand and a dream in her heart. Her family served as retainer to the Kuromiya clan, which was wiped out in a feudalistic attack from their neighbors. As one of the few survivors, Natsuki has come to Eorzea, seeking the last remaining heiress to the Kuromiya clan.

Though now a masterless ronin, Natsuki holds true to the ideals instilled in her since she was a child. Born to serve, with no greater fate than to die for a just lord. Exposure to Eorzea has lead to a great deal of culture shock, and she is just coming to terms with the idea that she can possibly live as an individual beyond her life of service which had scarcely even began.

True to her die-hard sense of loyalty, Natsuki believes strongly in the honor in those she deems worthy. Betrayal of trust is the highest of crimes in her mind; her trust is nigh impossible to regain once shattered. Natsuki is also a minder of debts and favors, and never lets a helping hand go without a return in kind.

Her ultimate goal is to locate Kasumi Kuromiya wherever she has gone in Eorzea, but she is not so foolish as to pursue the cause with reckless abandon. Natsuki knows that she will fare better in her search by coming to know the land of Eorzea and its people better, and to this end has committed herself to working for Vael Alatori, an enterprising Eorzean businessman that played a part in saving her life soon after her arrival.

BACKGROUND

The Kuromiya clan of Hingashi, lording over a bountiful mining region far from the open port of Kugane, was served by many smaller families of the region. One of these families, the Uematsu family, boasted the most prodigious warriors of the region, and served as personal bodyguards to the Kuromiya nobility. Natsuki was born in the underwater Kuromiya castle as the eldest child of Ryotaro Uematsu, the bodyguard to Lord Kuromiya himself.

As a daughter of the prestigious samurai-caste family, Natsuki was instructed by her mother Haruhi in the ways of battle as soon as she was able to wield a stick. Though the katana is the most iconic weapon of Hingan samurai, Haruhi trained her daughter in the ways of the onna-bugeisha; female warriors known to favor the naginata, a curved polearm.

When Natsuki came of age, she was assigned as the guardian to her dearest childhood friend, Kasumi Kuromiya. Kasumi was the eldest of the Kuromiya family, the proper heiress to their lands, and was a devout follower of the kami. As a shrine maiden, Kasumi saw to the spiritual needs of her family's subjects, and Natsuki stood at her side at all times as her yojimbo, or bodyguard. Given Kasumi's reckless and passionate nature, Natsuki's protection efforts often took the form of gentle scolding and lecturing.

The storm of feudal conflict came to the lands of the Kuromiya, however, and an alliance of two neighboring clans brought their might down upon Natsuki's home. Proclaiming the Kuromiya as traitors to the Bakufu and practitioners of the forbidden magic maho, the warring clans slaughtered their way to Kuromiya castle in short order.

Natsuki was relieved of duty at the time as Kasumi traveled abroad to Eorzea with her magic tutor, a xaela foreigner named Uyanga Malqir. She quickly sought the company of her father, who instead bade his daughter to flee and seek Kasumi and assure the survival of the Kuromiya blood. Ryotaro was tragically struck down alongside Lord Kuromiya, leaving Natsuki as the sole living Uematsu. Natsuki promised to find Kasumi in Eorzea and stay with her until they could make their return, and departed with her clan's enemies still hot on her trail.

With what she called the favor of the kami, Natsuki boarded a Kuganese vessel to the west with what little money she had remaining, and found herself in Eorzea. Kasumi remaining missing, and Natsuki had next to nothing for information regarding her search, but she was alive. It would have to be enough.

With lance in hand and a prayer under her breath, Natsuki began her investigation, starting in the port of Limsa Lominsa. To support her efforts, she briefly worked for an Ul'dahn treasure hunting company known as Alatori Acquisitions. The company proved to be corrupt and unscrupulous; Natsuki's fellow mercenaries turned on her to secure a greater share of a valuable treasure, and though she was able to slay the lot of them on her own, the fight robbed her of her left eye; a scar to remind her of what she had lost to seek out Kasumi in this strange land.

Bloodied and battered, Natsuki found herself in the company of friendly passerby; a warrior by the name of Emmaline Ibori was able to save Natsuki from bleeding out and introduced her to Vael Alatori, the benevolent nephew of Alatori Acquisitions' diabolocal owner. After Vael managed to usurp the company and expunge its criminal involvements, he offered Natsuki gainful employment and assistance in her search for Kasumi.

As an employee of Vael's company, Natsuki accompanied her boss as a bodyguard until Vael was reunited with an old friend; Vivisha Visha, a runaway Ul'dahn noble avoiding the vengeful ire of her family, known as the infamous House of the Desert Iris. Vael assigned Natsuki as Vivisha's personal bodyguard, and the pair bonded over their somewhat similar backgrounds. Vivisha would eventually found a small company known as Nymeia's Garden, in honor of her late husband Enqu Gosaqu, making Natsuki a founding member by default.

The Garden sought evidence to discredit Vivisha's family, and such evidence was to be found in far-off Dalmasca, where the Desert Iris supposedly traded in slaves. The Garden participated in the nearby Bozjan resistance efforts, during which Natsuki was unexpectedly reunited with Uyanga Malqir. Kasumi's magic tutor revealed shocking truths about Clan Kuromiya, truths that Natsuki had difficulty accepting.

In truth, the founding heroine of the Kuromiya clan had fought off a corrupted octopus auspice during the savage Age of Blood in Hingashi. Myth held that Kuromiya slew the beast, but in truth the beast was merely sealed by dark magics. For generations, the Kuromiya shrine maidens maintained the seal with blood magic rituals, a secret known only to the maidens themselves and the highest of lords in the clan.

Kasumi, invigorated by her experiences with the world beyond Hingashi, sought to break the cycle once and for all. Her searches brought her to Othard, leaving Natsuki closer to finding her Lady than ever. Though the bitterness of many lies revealed sours her heart, Natsuki remains forever committed to the service of her Lady Kasumi.

JOBS & SKILLS

As a samurai of the Uematsu family, Natsuki is a trained student of several martial disciplines, favoring the naginata above all. With a strength betraying her small frame and an agility to complement it, Natsuki is a dangerous combatant in mid-range engagements where she can utilize the full length of her polearms. The secret to her family's prowess lies in manipulating aetheric energy to propel themselves from the ground in dangerous falling attacks, similar to the jumping techniques of Ishgardian dragoons.

Natsuki is also trained in the use of the katana, as well as hand-to-hand techniques. She is also capable of utilizing a shortbow, though she will always prefer melee engagement.

In the absence of properly Hingan-forged armaments, Natsuki has been forced to make do with Eorzean equivalents. Her polearms are typically light glaives, and she often wields poor imitations of katanas (much to her displeasure).

In contrast to her martial mastery, Natsuki has little talent for the magical arts. Outside of manipulating aether to perform combat maneuvers, Natsuki is a poor wielder of aetheric energies in more concentrated and complicated ways, and is thus an unskilled mage.

Out of Character

I have been roleplaying for over ten years on various mediums; some of my haunts include WoW's Moon Guard Server, on the Unofficial Elder Scrolls Pages Forums, the old Ebon Hawk server on SWTOR, and in my personal games of D&D. FFXIV is my latest love, and I would like to explore Natsuki as a character with as many contacts as I can so that he can have an enjoyable, procedural and communally created story.

I thoroughly enjoy walk-ups and tells to initiate RP, and you can always consider the RP icon to indicate being in character. I am a paragraph roleplayer and prefer story-intensive play with a focus on character and relationship development.

I am over 21 years old, male, and LGBT+ friendly. I do not and will not engage in ERP in any shape or form, and adopt a fade-to-black policy in the event of anything approaching it.

If you'd like to contact me for any reason, you can add me on discord as Discomancer#9504, or you can message me on discomancer.tumblr.com. I'm always cool with in-game DMs, but might be busy at some points!
